Encor Mouse monoclonal to Neurofilament Medium, NF-M
Neurofilaments are the 10nm or intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons, and are composed predominantly of three major proteins called NF-L, NF-M and NF-H. NF-M is the neurofilament middle or medium molecular weight polypeptide and runs on SDS-PAGE gels at 145-160 kDa, with some variability across species boundaries.
Antibodies to NF-M are useful for identifying neuronal cells and their processes in tissue sections and in tissue culture. NF-M antibodies can also be useful to visualize of neurofilament accumulations seen in many neurological diseases, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and Alzheimer’s disease.
MCA-3H11 was raised against a recombinant fusion protein containing the extreme C-terminus of rat NF-M expressed in and purified from E. coli (1). The epitope is localized to within the last 56 amino acids at the extreme C-terminus of rat NF-M, the so-called KE segment which is highly conserved between NF-M molecules from different species. MCA-3H11 is an IgG1 class antibody with a k light chain. It recognizes intact NF-M strongly and specifically on immunoblots in all mammals and birds tested to date and also binds NF-M in cells in tissue culture and in sectioned material.
